A long way of changing my concept of playing Diablo 2 by TSW mod

I originally wanted to write a article about the mistakes or something needed to learn when playing TSW mod as a new player. But I found it was too serious or too bored to write. And I have written them in Chinese. So I'd rather chat than teach.

At the very first time I played TSW mod. I was a vanilla HC player. So I still had some old habit even though I had played HC for about 4 to 5 years. Generally speaking, in vanilla I was very offensive, only a little bit defensive. The ratio can be 8:2, Offense vs Defense. But as I played TSW mod, it needed to be more defensive. The ratio became to be about 6:4, Offense vs Defense. This is a huge change for me.

As I said in other article, my first end-game character was Barbarian. I had to keep moving to dodge missile damages. You can see whether one is a pro player or not by checking one's motion of character. If the character usually stays still casting or attacking, then you can know this guy is not pro. Pro player usually moves without consciousness. Because the monsters always shoot the place you are, if you are not in the current place then you can avoid it. So even I don't see the attack I still move.

The second thing that I changed was I learned how to attack efficiently. Which means that I learn to judge the attack timing. It is because of the number of monsters in TSW mod is way larger than vanilla D2. So if you attack carelessly, you would soon get a lot of damage which means consuming portions quickly. And in TSW mod, the financial balance is harder which is designed for this purpose. Play carefully. So you would learn how to and how not to attack in different situations.

The third part that changed my concept should be the last career I played, it was Paladin. Even I had played other six careers, I still felt not smooth when I played Paladin. So Paladin was the last career that I played. And it was actually a different career, because it was more defensive. The ratio by my establishment is about 4:6, Offense vs Defense. So to me, it is hard to adapt. I learned it for a longer time. But it did deepen my understanding of Diablo 2. By playing this career, I discovered some new buildings that I never thought before. Besides, well I actually knew that Paladin was the mod author's favorite career. I could know by reading the skill instructions. But only did I really play it did I know How strong this career is. The last version was dual-aura-zeal Paladin. But it had pros and cons. The pros is it is tank and lazy, the cons is it can make you lazy as well. Once you are used to Paladin, you would need time to adapt new careers. And if you are a totally new player, Paladin may be not a good choice, it is possible to develop another bad habit by Paladin in TSW mod. Because Paladin is too convenient with the skills. Most problems can be literally solved by auras. However other careers does not have auras. This is what I describe above. So be careful if you are new in TSW mod. For me, a retired player, dual-aura-zeal Paladin is the top 3 career that I play due to its convenience and least disadvantages.
