In this article I want to add as I didn't mention in previous article.
It reminded me after I read one post in Taiwanese forum. I think there should be many concepts in TSW mod that you don't have in vanilla D2. But I don't remember them, I practice them. And I am lazy to write details like an essay now. So I would write as my memory is evoked.
Here let me talk about the concept in TSW mod that you may not have in vanilla D2: To have a solution is better than to have an optimized solution. Which means that you'd better to have a solution to deal some troubles rather than to pursue the fastest solution as you consider your buildings. This concept is hard to learn for me, it takes me a long time, about 3 years or more, not sure. I mean, this is a process, it is not like a switch that you suddenly learn all of them as you wake up.
So for me, there are some steps to evolve. But now I only focus on one point. Let me explain why I changed my mind.
The biggest part of it will be the time I played Barbarian, as I faced the Hurricane Wizard in Act I. For Barbarian at the time, I was unable to deal. And I asked the author, his answer was something I never thought: Use javelins. Even though I had played Diablo 2 for so long, there are still some blind fields in my mind. That was a lesson to me that made me be more open and flexible.
And when I challenged Baal. I had to deal triple immune monsters there (Throne of Destruction), which made me think another solution or I could not go on. That was not a easy one for Barbarian, it did burn my brain at the time. But I ended up figuring out. Because the triple immune monsters have low HP, you don't actually need an efficient damage as usual. So, in the case, the magic weapon can help. This was the solution of my Barbarian. Once again, this experience let me learn that, in the case, what is important is to solve the the problem, not to hold the optimized solution for general situations. Because in the special case, the optimized solution can be useless.
So what is the relationship with this? In vanilla D2, due to the whole game systems, players always pursue the fastest way. In TSW mod, this may not work. So players needs to change their mind, to think the worst case and prepare for it. That is the tips to play this mod longer. Or you may feel frustrated soon.
Well I just memorized another thing, in TSW mod the author has answers to all maps basically. So usually there would not be no solutions. But you have to figure it out, which is not available for every player. Since to make this requires your vast knowledge of Diablo 2 and TSW mod. You have to know both very well so you can figure out the solution.
In other words, there is not always a solution personally if you play it in an careless way or you do not have enough knowledge. I still learned something about D2 as I played TSW mod although I had played it for over ten years. So for a person it is possible to meet an dead end unfortunately. It depends on how much you consider when or before you play it. And it also needs experience to know what kind of monsters in the maps and how they behavior. Well, I was lucky to use Barbarian as my first career to go through Hell. So I know them. And I could make a decision or imagine what may happen in my mind before really playing. For new players, you can play Nightmare at first. This would be your challenge. And of course, achievement follows after.
